MINISTRY UPDATE – Summer 2017

Hey Friends,

It’s been a while, but I have a good reason for such a slow update.

I finished my last engagement for the Spring on June 2nd.  Every event this Spring has been wonderful and I’ve seen God touching so many hearts, from Seniors groups, Sunday morning church services to Women’s groups too.

On June 3rd, I woke up and had no voice. Days went by and I started to have a voice, but it sounded like Mickey Mouse. A terrible virus hit my sinuses and bronchial tubes all at once. My voice box was shut down. I pulled an “all-nighter” being treated at a hospital and returned home. No one at my home church except my Pastor, a few friends, and the church secretary heard hide nor hair of me (except by email or quick phone call) until the 3rd week of July.  At this point, it’s been a little bit up and down as I recover. Some times, my voice is there, and sometimes it’s not.  An evaluation from a vocal coach “Karen Lane O’Connor” says when I can sing, it sounds really good, but my voice is still healing.  As a result, besides a few short sprints of a song here or there, I won’t be doing any lengthy concerts for a while.   I did accept an opportunity to share a few songs at a Ladies’ Summer Brunch on Aug, 12th along with a brief devotional. It was well received with grace and understanding, since the Holy Spirit ministers through the words and music, thankfully, and is not dependent on how good my voice sounds.

Way back in February, I injured my left hip. I have hobbled through all my Spring ministry engagements, expecting that it’s going to heal sooner or later if I just rest it and use ice and heat along the way.   It was very laborsome and I could tell that my body was compensating for the imbalance. Doctors kept showing me stretches I could do. They suggested that I do aquafit, physiotherapy and core strengthening exercises. I saw a few specialists but the more I tried to do what they recommended, the worse it has become. During the first week of July, my left hip seemed to snap into place but left throbbing pain. It’s never been the same. Over the last week, the pain has increased so badly and the inability to walk any length of time has become overwhelming at times.  A heating pad has become my home base.

On Wednesday, Aug 2,  I had an MRI with the dye injected into my left hip so that it would be a “high contrasting image” on the MRI. Before the MRI, I met with my radiologist and she told me that they were looking for a labral tear in the left hip joint. She discussed my symptoms with me and although I do not have the results of my MRI yet, (not til Aug 21)  the radiologist is pretty certain that this is my problem. The worse case scenario is that I will need surgery to repair the labral tear OR I choose to continue walking with this pain, like a lame duck and eventually face a total hip replacement. The best case scenario (in the natural) is that the tear is minor and the treatment will require a lot of down time, rest and limited mobility, either way, I will face some prolonged physiotherapy without a miracle. Another scenario is that it is not a labral tear at all, and we continue to find the right medical help. While I want to believe for a miracle, as many of us know, the process doesn’t always bring an instant miracle. In addition, doctors have realized that I may have damaged the left and right Piriformis muscle due to a bad fall I had in 2013, that is now complicating problems even more. This is a muscle that lays over of your Sciatica in the lower back. I am now experiencing numbing in my hips, through my legs and feet. It’s minor at this point, but I want to avoid any further damage. This is very discouraging and frustrating for me, as I have been attempting to raise funds for the “Blessing Fund” so that there are funds to provide for families in crisis. I am also embarking on a fundraising campaign to complete a new CD (50% done) but WHAT I REALLY NEED RIGHT NOW, (besides your prayers that I deeply treasure) is to simply rest in the Lord… and an electric scooter to get to doctor’s appointments and help me get around, shopping etc.  I’ve often used my ministry income to help support the costs of past events for the ministry to the Christian Women Fellowship in my region, and this means that without ministry engagements because I need time to heal, I have no income.   I do this with a passionate servant’s heart. The Lord has always come through just in time, and I continue to trust him to provide. At this point, in all the times that I have been instrumental in gathering funds through the charity, for others who are in need, now, I am in need. I am a little weary and although I am believing for a miracle, it can take some time to see past the overwhelming circumstances and gain the inner strength to rise up in faith. I remember well because it was a 13-year journey with Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, and Depression before the Lord miraculously healed me.  Thank you for your prayers and support. I would love to hear from you and I appreciate your prayerful feedback tremendously, more than you know.

I will resume recording new radio devotionals for WJIC, the Cpop Network and Racman Christian Radio in a few weeks. I will also be preparing for Women’s Event “Fall into Jesus” with Joanne Goodwin, scheduled for Sept 22, 2017. See details here.  I’m also looking forward to what God will do in 2018 since I have seen that churches and organizations have already booked me for the year ahead. Organizations, specifically “pro-life” organizations will be a new experience since I will also be sharing in highschools too.

There have been some ministry developments with new music but I can’t release that information yet because of the work in progress. When the time is right, I will not waste time getting the news out to you.

Thank you for your heartfelt sincere prayers and God bless you.

Latest News

Hi Friends,

I just wanted to take a few minutes to highlight the exciting things that God has been doing here.  I’ll hit the highlights and try and make it as brief and concise as possible.

oct-22-flyer-web-versionThe most recent ministry engagements included the start of a life-changing conference entitled “Unbreakable Woman”. I was the music guest and keynote speaker for both the morning and afternoon sessions.  It sparked such a vision, that I”ll be taking this message to future women’s events as the Lord opens the doors.  It’s based on Genesis 16 when the angel of the Lord asked Hagar, “Where have you come from and where are you going? Intermixed and reflecting this message with my personal testimony, this was a powerful event that had women surrendering in abandon to the will of God. They came seeking God for victory over their pain, broken hearts, forgiveness and other needs in their life at the end of the day.  Every woman left their seat for prayer at the end of the day. It was a powerful and life-changing day.

There were two other women’s conferences that ministered at this past year “Afternoon Splash”, sharing the stage with Melinda Estabrooks (100 Huntley Street) and then a Women’s Day in Stratford Ontario.  Both did not disappoint to see the hand of God move in the hearts of the ladies who attended.

“Celebrate” on TCT Network

I”ve had a few television appearances of the course of the season including a program called “Celebrate” airing on TCT, a Christian television station that broadcasts across the United States.  I taped at WNYB in Buffalo for this segment with an opportunity to sing several songs for future programs as well as the opportunity to be interviewed by host, Bishop Reid. Also, It was wonderful to meet Nev Larson from the Christian Radio Station WDCX in Buffalo, who was also a guest on the program that day.  We had a few minutes to chat about Christian radio and things we had in common.

“WordTalk with Val”

I was also a guest on “WordTalk with Val” airing in the London ON., region.  WordTalk had a very “high impact” powerful message and encouragement for viewers who follow the program. Both programs were wonderful experiences and I hope to have footage from both of them that I can make available for you to view later. (Be sure to sign up on the mailing list to get the details when they are ready to view)

These two programs were certainly part of a pre-launch to talk about the release of the extended edition of my book “Wings To Victory”.

“Wings To Victory” Extended Edition

If you’re not already aware, the book “Wings To Victory” is my personal testimony and the journey that led to God’s miraculous healing in my life. He gave me healing and victory from a syndrome that I suffered with for 13 years. This book has been released for about a year now, but a while ago, the Lord instructed me to add more background and faith stories as well as Biblical principles that are so relevant to my personal testimony. These were stories that I thought I was saving for another book. Now, this has added two more chapters, additional details, Biblical insight, and stories, to the original manuscript of the book, and so now this the Extended Edition. It truly is as I’ve described it, “A love story of faith, hope and healing beyond what the natural eye can see”.  It’s made available in soft cover and as an E-book as well. It can be found on a variety of online distributors including Amazon.com and Amazon.ca.  The book “Wings To Victory” is also available here on my website. | Soft Cover | E-book |

In the midst of all of this, I am still pressing on with the “Steady Ground” Project. I’m still completing work in the studio for this new CD, but oh … so close to being completed. How wonderful of a surprise it was when I recently found out that my song “O God” was number one on the Indie Gospel charts.

At Church in the Oaks, October 30th, London Ontario – 10:30 AM Service

If you’re in the area, come and take in a special Sunday morning, where I’ll be doing a concert at “Church in the Oaks” in London ON.,  This is an opportunity to meet in person and grab a CD and book at the merch table rate ( you save on shipping)  I’ll also be opening and closing the service with the Worship Team on that morning. The service will be video recorded since we are testing some video footage for future television programming.  (This is exciting but I can’t tell you all the details yet)

If you’re in the area and would like to take in a special service, I would love to meet you.

It’s at Church in the Oaks, 150 Conway Drive, London Ontario Canada. 10:30 AM Service on October 30th.

As you can see, God is doing an awesome work and he’s being very selective about where he sends me lately. Each event I’ve ministered at has been very “on purpose” and “on mission”.  This is the midst of working on the details of the “Steady Ground” project.  This project has died while I agonized over aspects of it. Like a seed that must die in the ground before it begins new growth, this project has come back to life in my spirit.  It has been particularly challenging with obstacles, I believe, because of the power and underlying purpose of this project.  I would love for you to explore more and join with me on this journey.  It’s unique, inspired, and is crossing borders like I would have never dreamed.  I explain more in the video that you can watch at —> THIS LINK.

Thank you for checking in with me to see how God is moving in my corner.  I want to honor the Lord and let the light shine that he burns within me. I so appreciate your encouragement, support, and prayer.  If you ever have a prayer request, please don’t hesitate to send me an email using the “Pledge and Prayer” form on this website.

Thank You & God Bless You Richly,
