Matthew 11: 28-30
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Jesus invites us to take His yoke and learn from Him. He promises to make His burden light. A yoke traditionally links two animals so they can pull together. They will work together in the field pulling a cart, plow, or another heavy object. The one who is weaker will always be partnered with a stronger, more experienced animal that is used to wearing a yoke.
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
You may feel heavy sometimes. The demands of work, relationships, and other pressures can lead you to want to do it all on your own. Jesus invites us to walk with him. He carries the yoke because he is stronger, and can endure much better than we can on our own. We can lean on Him and trust in Him when we are too weak for the journey ahead. No longer do we carry our burdens on our own. Jesus is always there to support and guide us. Jesus gives us hope when He says His burden or "yoke" will be light and easy, bringing rest to our souls. That's because he is carrying the load, walking with us.
We must embrace Jesus' invitation to bring our fears, worries, and concerns before Him. Take His yoke as you walk with Jesus, and learn from Him. Trust that He will lead you through the challenges you face. Rest in Jesus’ loving embrace. Let him carry the yoke while you walk with him.
